Job Summary (Purpose):

The ACE Process Engineer will lead process and operations development for the AmeriGas Cylinder Exchange (ACE) business in production centers and wash and fill sites for the reconditioning of 17 million cylinders annually,  reconditioning and standards development; material handling and efficiency process development, plant and equipment design and standardization, assist facilities with meeting environmental, regulatory and permitting requirements, reconditioning vendor management, safety performance, budget team involvement, capital management, acquisitions, other duties as assigned.

 

Key Characteristics:
  • Proven experience in managing third party vendors including negotiations, implementation, and ongoing review of vendor compliance with contract terms.
  • Processing equipment design and layout experience for efficient material handling and injury prevention through design
  • Analytical mindset in order to develop key performance standards to meet safety, production, material handling, and efficiency consistency.
  • Project Management skills in order to anticipate required budgeting requirements for necessary capital to expand, improve, upgrade, and to overall enhance each of the cylinder processing operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Safety - Works with ACE Safety and leadership teams on equipment design and standardization to ensure there are safe work performance practices being conducted and that there is a work safe environment. Establishes standardize procedural requirements of processes and equipment to meet Operations and Safety Training Guidebook requirements for training.

 
  • Permits/regulatory assistance - Work with operation personnel and departments to evaluate products/chemicals used for cylinder processing. Examples are annual Air Quality reporting, waste water reporting & storm water management for facility. Assist with obtaining all necessary operating permits and approvals.  

 
  • Reconditioning Vendor Management - Accountable for select Third Party reconditioning in establishing geographic synergies to volume demand as well as product quality standards and pricing based on work performed. Executing Cylinder Refurbishing Agreements and communicating volume requirements to drive pricing discussions for optimal cost savings.

 
  • Equipment Design and Standardization - Works with manufacturing vendors in equipment design and standardization for consistent operational practices. Includes product development, testing, and implementation to ensure productivity requirements are established for cylinder processing integration.

 
  • Material Handling and Efficiency Development - Directs material handling and efficiency of cylinder processing operations through equipment design, processing enhancements and manpower requirements to drive lowest possible cost to produce cylinders. Reviews operational practices and performance measures against standards for evaluation and change implementation.

 
  • Reconditioning and Standards Development - Identifies and implements standards in all operational practices of the cylinder processing business with regard to equipment to address Federal, State, Local, and OSHA codes with the help of the Safety team to ensure all process are consistent with our Operations and Safety Training Guidebook training.

 
  • Capital Management -Works with ACE Director of Operations   to manage ACE capital expenditures against infrastructure projects, which include capital infrastructure planning for each region, all paperwork management to account for policy requirements from Purchasing, AP, and Fixed Assets, monthly and quarterly capital summary report expenditures, individual project expenditure management to ensure there is no over spending, and project completion and document closure.

 
  • Acquisitions - Leads due diligence team in infrastructure and improvement related capital projects to bring potential acquisitions to Amerigas standards that are cylinder exchange business related. Involved in pro-forma related cost structures on exchange and reconditioning type businesses to address overall packaging costs of acquisition.

 
  • Communication - Keeps ACE Director of Operations and stakeholders updated on all matters of importance and communicates key issues that arise. Lead cross functional teams to drive projects from conception to completion.

 
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to assess and identify work flow issues and design and execute modifications and changes to enhance productivity.
  • Familiarization with all types of production equipment and ability to design, modify, or develop equipment that positively affects processes and practices in order to be competitive in the industry with low cost operational facilities.
  • Ability to lead multiple large task oriented projects while involving stakeholder participation and managing to fixed cost structures.
  • Ability to present and communicate to large diverse groups of managers and lead and motivate project teams.

 

Education and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Master's degree and/or Certification in Lean Manufacturing preferred
  • 5 to 7 years of work related knowledge
  • 5+ years' experience in industrial manufacturing .
  • 2+ years' experience in process improvement  and project management.

 

Working conditions:
  • AmeriGas corporate office with extensive travel required.
