The Clemson University, College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences, Animal and Veterinary Sciences Department (AVS) "is the only University-level program in the state of South Carolina to focus all of its efforts on serving animal agriculture and its allied industries" through all three Land Grant Missions (i.e., teaching, research and extension/outreach) provided for by the Morrill (1862), Hatch (1887) and Smith-Lever (1914) Acts of the United States of America. In support of these missions, AVS awards the BS, MS and PhD degrees in Animal and Veterinary Sciences, conducts research aimed at improving animal productivity, health and product quality/safety and provides expert continuing education/training opportunities for animal agricultural production and management professionals, policy makers and veterinarians. Job Summary: Clemson University's Animal and Veterinary Sciences Department invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position with emphasis in Animal Nutrition and/or Gut Microbiome (poultry/swine emphasis). The anticipated start date is August 2018. Expectations for the successful candidate will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise (e.g., basic/applied animal nutrition, nutrient utilization, digestive physiology/metabolism, gastrointestinal microbiology). AVS is highly regarded for its undergraduate training and thus, a strong commitment to teaching effectiveness and innovation and participation in undergraduate advising, on-campus extra-curricular activities (e.g. student clubs/organizations) and other department-related assignments are expected. AVS looks to recruit a dynamic scientist with a strong commitment to the application of nutritional science and/or gastrointestinal microbiology toward improving the health and productivity of poultry and/or swine. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independently funded and internationally recognized research program focused on providing experiential learning opportunity for undergraduates, training graduate students (MS, PhD), advancing science and solving stakeholder problems.


QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in Animal Science, Nutrition or Microbiology with a strong commitment to improving animal productivity and health in the poultry and swine industries is required. Excellent interpersonal skills, exceptional oral and written communication proficiency and strong interest in collaboration with faculty, students, staff and public within the department, college, university, and community are required. Evidence supporting excellence in teaching, the ability to secure extramural funding and to publish in top tier journals is preferred.
