Communications/Writer/Specialist

Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Donor Relations Writer.  The Donor Relations department of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is responsible for supporting the development and fundraising campaign efforts of the University of Nevada, Reno. The Writer position supports the University’s philanthropic goals by creating compelling communications to aid in the cultivation, education, solicitation and stewardship of donors.  The Writer reports to the Director and develops story ideas, fresh and innovative copy and information for correspondence and reports, writes donor acknowledgements, stories and articles about donors and gifts,  assists with general reporting information, conducts research pertinent to writing assignments, assists with reporting to donors and supports development activities. The Writer works closely with the Development and Alumni Relations staff and administrators to produce stewardship and development materials. The position contributes to the development of policies and procedures of the department and with the review of information and work produced in the division.  In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • Interpersonal, public relations and customer service skills, including the ability to interact effectively with coworkers, students,   volunteers, administrators, alumni and donors
  • Attention to detail
  • High level of initiative, creativity and collaboration
  • Exemplary written communications skills such as preparing correspondence, stories, publications and reports
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Interpretation and analyses of a wide variety of research information and resources

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and two years of experience or a Master’s Degree and one year of comparable professional experience.
 
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with website content management, relational database, graphic design (Adobe)
Proficiency in use of a personal computer and current software applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and email)
 
Salary
Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and related experience
$37,000-$50,000
 
Department Information
Donor relations is a comprehensive effort to ensure that donors experience high-quality interactions with the University that foster long-term engagement and investment. The department supports the division-wide goals of Development and Alumni Relations, and is responsible for donor correspondence and acknowledgements, endowment and scholarship reporting, gift agreements, giving website (https://www.unr.edu/giving-to-nevada) and donor recognition, for Nevada Silver & Blue magazine, social media and e-newsletters.
