The Clemson University School of Architecture invites applications for the faculty position of The Homer Curtis Mickel and Leola Carter Mickel Endowed Chair in Architecture and Director of the Clemson University Institute for Intelligent Materials, Systems and Environments (CU- IMSE) beginning August 15, 2018. This position will be at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level with tenure. Pay ranges from $78,537.00 - $156,364.00 commensurate with qualifications. The Homer Curtis Mickel and Leola Carter Mickel Endowed Chair in Architecture is awarded to a nationally/internationally renowned scholar to support them in their research and teaching at the Clemson University School of Architecture. While the primary role of the Mickel Chair will be research, the successful candidate will also be expected to participate in advising PhD students in Clemson's interdisciplinary PhD program in Environmental Design and Planning, and working with faculty and students in the Master of Architecture program on related studio and seminar courses.

The Clemson University Institute for Intelligent Materials, Systems and Environments (CU- iMSE) focuses its efforts on the design and evaluation of intelligent environments, their materials, and their systems. Partnering the departments of Architecture, Electrical and Computing Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering, CU-IMSE is home to interdisciplinary research and teaching teams sufficiently complex in composition to address the challenges of contemporary society with innovative solutions. As Director of CU-IMSE the primary responsibility of the new director will be to continue the Institute's success in attracting significant external funding and fostering an environment of interdisciplinary research at Clemson University between architecture and allied disciplines.

The successful candidate will have a strong combination of the following qualifications: 1) academic credentials and a record of funded research and scholarship, 2) academic qualifications and publications commensurate with the rank of tenured associate or full professor, 3) demonstrated excellence in teaching, 4) a record of leadership in forming interdisciplinary research teams
