Position Overview

The Aspen Institute seeks an individual with a strong skill set in project management, communications, and relationship management to join Aspen BSP. The Senior Program Manager will work primarily with the team focused on creating the conditions for long-term capitalism – and both participate fully in crafting the theory of change and strategy, and support the team in executing on strategic priorities.

Senior Program Manager will have specific responsibility for growing the Long-Term Strategy Group (LTSG), a network of enterprise level leaders in business and finance, committed to peer learning and change management in pursuit of values-based leadership and long term value creation.

The LTSG is a laboratory for developing new ideas and practices for creating sustainable long-term value. It is also a critical source of underwriting and business engagement for BSP’s work on creating systemic change in how business conceives of corporate purpose, metrics of success and incentives and rewards for executives. The LTSG is transitioning from a pilot concept and fledging enterprise to a fully integrated BSP program and requires exceptional strategic vision and program execution to grow in both membership and impact. The strategy, program offerings and benefits of membership continue to evolve as we recruit new members and work to understand their interests and capacities. The Senior Program Manager will play a critical role in conceptualizing the future of the LTSG and bringing it to fruition.

About this Position – Key Responsibilities

The Senior Program Manager will work closely with other members of the capitalism team and BSP staff to:

  • Organize, manage, and execute important projects and program deliverables for the long-term capitalism portfolio of initiatives and goals. This will include ensuring the delivery of successful member dialogues, roundtables, research, public campaigns & statements, and other communication goals (60+% of time). Examples of projects to be planned and executed include:
    • Two major LTSG member events per year – a Spring Roundtable and a Fall workshop experience.
    • Increase the visibility of BSP thought leadership: e.g. “Leading with Purpose” video project, Purpose project, CFO-LT Investor Dialogue, Aspen Principles, and American Prosperity Project.
    • Contribute to the creation and implementation of a new dialogue on the Integrity of Pay – including refining the theory of change, recruitment, agenda development, and logistics.
    • Manage and produce strategic communications, including our monthly newsletter, working papers and output from dialogue and working groups; ensure website is updated on a timely basis (directly or through support staff).
  • Work closely with the team to meet growth targets and refine strategy, pricing, and benefits for the LTSG (approximately 30% of time).
    • Identify, recruit, retain, and fulfill expectations for members of the LTSG.
    • Oversee development of products designed to enhance the member experience and impact.
  • Craft program messaging for members as well as BSP’s wider networks of business executives – allies in popular, business and academic press, among Aspen Institute constituents and in public venues.
  • Manage and work with interns, administrative, and support staff in pursuit of the goals and objectives of the long-term capitalism team.

  • Experience working directly with – and networking to reach out to – senior business executives, investors, and academics.
  • Recruitment and sales skills.
  • Deep curiosity for the questions and challenges at the heart of Aspen BSP and especially the Long-Term Capitalism team.
  • Strong results-orientation.
  • Experience facilitating small groups of business professionals and is interested in learning the “art” of Aspen Institute values-based dialogue.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in business or professional services, and knowledge of capital markets and business management practices.
  • Graduate degree in business, law, or social sciences is preferred.
