Under the supervision of the Vice Provost of Diversity and Inclusion but with latitude to act independently, the Assistant Director defines, develops and executes strategies and ongoing initiatives to promote the diversity and inclusion priorities of the University.


The Assistant Director serves as the primary staff member for integrating diversity education efforts across campus, implementing diversity programs with academic departments, supporting faculty efforts, managing community outreach efforts, and serving as a liaison with all academic colleges and campus divisions. They are responsible for leading campus-wide diversity programs, managing the Diversity Training Series, and supporting diversity committees within the colleges.


The Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing the Faculty Innovation Grant program and other co-sponsorship efforts; Leading staff development efforts for underrepresented staff, including management of Affinity Group Programs; Developing in-person and online training and presentation materials; Managing marketing efforts (web, social media) and Supervision of the Diversity Programs Coordinator and student workers/interns.


In addition, the Assistant Director will be responsible for developing proposals for internal and external partnership opportunities, and assist the Vice Provost in recruitment and representation efforts in accordance with best practices in higher education, resolution of campus climate concerns, and data/assessment which inform strategic priorities. The Assistant Director will be a point person with local, state and national organizations focused on diversity and inclusion.




Qualified candidates must hold Bachelor’s degree in higher education administration or related field, Master’s preferred:


Minimum 6 – 8 years of experience required in diversity education, curriculum development, and project management.


Proven ability to work independently, take initiative and take ideas from concept to execution; strong project management and programming skills required.


Demonstrate excellent communication skills in working with colleagues at all levels, and demonstrate high-level facilitation & presentation skills.


Demonstrated leadership skills, and organizational skills for leading projects, programs and guiding teams.


Demonstrated knowledge & sensitivity to the needs and concerns of diverse constituents and confidential matters; and strong interpersonal skills in working with diverse constituents.


Other qualifications include strong written and communication skills, willingness to be responsive and flexible to competing or shifting demands, and familiarity with best practices in diversity and inclusion strategies in higher education.
