CLE Customer Service Specialist


The Oregon State Bar (OSB) regulates the practice of law in Oregon and provides a variety of services to its members and the public.

We are looking to fill the position to provide customer service for registration and sales transactions of all Oregon State Bar (OSB) Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars and products, Legal Publications products, and other OSB events and products.




Essential Duties include the following:


Assist customers with seminar registration and product selection, timely answers related event and product questions via phone and email, and direct other questions to appropriate OSB staff with a level of customer service set forth by the Director of CLE Seminars.


Process phone, in-person, mail, and hard copy transactions by entering payment data directly into the accounting system and reconciling transactions.


Assist customers with live event, webcast, and on demand registration and account set up via phone; answer teleseminar and on demand and product sales questions via phone and email. Direct more complex questions to appropriate CLE Seminars staff or vendors for technical assistance.


Create email lists and send email marketing.


Order seminar products from vendors and Copy Center.


Enter and retrieve customer information using several customized databases.


Assist with live seminar preparation, on-site registration, and clean up.


Provide routine back up to CLE Seminars Assistant position for a variety of administrative tasks.


Maintain CLE Service Center inventory of CLE Seminars and Legal Publications products; recycle or otherwise dispose of outdated inventory and packaging.




Candidates may have any satisfactory equivalent combination of the following experience & training which ensures the ability to perform the work. 


High school diploma or equivalent certificate.


Three years of customer service or support-related work in a call center or sales environment required.


One year secretarial, clerical, or office assistant experience. Familiarity with the legal profession desired.


Familiarity with online learning platforms, including online registration, payment, and customer account information retrieval, desired.


Experience with the use of modern office and business equipment.


Experience with Microsoft Office Suite in a Microsoft Windows environment with particular emphasis on Word, Excel, Outlook, and database programs.


Experience with or ability to learn Great Plains accounting software or other accounting platforms and GroupMail software.


Experience performing data entry and database manipulations and retrieval work with high accuracy.


Experience providing customer service via electronic communication methods.


Type 40 WPM with accuracy. 10-key skills preferred. Ability to manage cash transactions without the use of a cash register or terminal.


Excellent organizational skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.


Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills with a strong ability to use tact.


Ability to handle a high volume of calls while consistently exercising a professional demeanor.


Ability to pay strict attention detail.


Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet multiple deadlines with minimal direction in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.


Ability to work with various groups of people with competing demands.


Ability to exercise a professional demeanor and a consistently high level of customer service and problem-solving skills for a potentially demanding customer base in a variety of situations.


Ability to exercise sound judgment in keeping with the objectives and policies of the CLE Seminars Department and the Oregon State Bar.

Ability to use standard office equipment and computer peripherals. Ability to perform detailed work requiring concentrated effort.


Ability to lift up to ten pounds overhead to stock inventory and 30 pounds overall.


Ability to travel within the Portland metro area when needed to assist with seminar registration.


Ability to work irregular hours. Ability to work in a moderately noisy, open environment.


Ability to use appropriate transfer equipment to transport department equipment and supplies.




For this salary range, the minimum is $20.19 per hour. The OSB offers excellent benefits including voluntary 6% participation in the PERS program.
