Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategic Growth Initiatives at Harvard's Division of Continuing Education (DCE), the Director of Content and Digital Marketing Services serves as a key member of the team responsible for implementing integrated marketing strategies and tactics that support the DCE's program portfolio, including Harvard Summer School, Harvard Extension School, Harvard Professional Development Programs, and Harvard's Institute for Learning in Retirement.

This position is an important part of the leadership team within the Office of Strategic Growth Initiatives, a department of approximately 40 staff, and will play a critical role in achieving ambitious DCE-wide growth goals. A successful candidate will be a well-organized marketing professional with a strong digital marketing background, a firm grasp of directing content strategy, experience managing search engine optimization (SEO), and capable of developing and interpreting online marketing analytics reports. This role oversees a team of approximately seven, including the content marketing team, the web development team, and the social and email marketing team.

This individual will play a key role in establishing the marketing services organization and streamlining the people, systems, and processes DCE utilizes as the organization scales to increase personalization and marketing automation. The Division is in the process of implementing Salesforce and Marketing Cloud and needs a strategic thinker with direct experience in this area. This person will work with the marketing directors and external strategic partners to allocate an advertising budget of approximately $3.5M through the most effective channels as supported by data.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Define the marketing services organization and function. Develop digital, content, and web roles, and clearly outline responsibilities. Establish and lead a team of content contributors.

  • Direct and collaborate with multiple functional groups including advertising agency and vendors, school/program marketing, creative services, and email operations to ensure we are leveraging digital content to drive the most impact for business.

  • Develop and delivers periodic quantitative and qualitative reports on optimization of the marketing funnel, campaign results, and return on investment for content and digital marketing campaigns.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in the Arts or Sciences
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience. Advanced degree may count towards experience.
  • Advanced experience in metrics and marketing to adult and online students
