Job Summary
Manage payroll operations and services for a school/unit including transaction, processing, and records management.

Core Duties

  • Responsible for effective staff management for a group or team of employees, including hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment
  • Manage payroll function for a school/unit
  • Continuously review and enhance processes and implement changes
  • Ensure quality customer service to employees and departments
  • Act as advisor to department managers and staff on payroll policies
  • Collaborate on the development of new payroll procedures within school/unit that support University wide policies and initiatives
  • Review operational metrics to monitor and improve performance
  • Ensure financial compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper reporting and compliance with established University and FAS Payroll Key Controls (including ACA, FLSA policy and MA Sick Time Law) generating, reviewing and approving various PeopleSoft and ASPerIN/Aurora (internal FAS systems) reports. Participates in annual payroll audits, communicates with and requests information from local department/financial administrators under review.
  • Oversee and monitor the processing of monthly faculty (Jr. Faculty, Other Academics, Post-Docs and TAs), monthly teaching fellow, bi-weekly and weekly payrolls to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Partners with the Associate Director of FAS Payroll Services in the reconciliation of the Monthly Sr. Faculty payroll.
  • Analyze data from existing databases to generate reports for decision makers.
  • Recommends and/or implements process redesign to automate processes.
  • Active role in the development and transition of FAS systems from ASPerIN to Aurora. Oversees and/or audits and reconciles Aurora data and performs reconciliation as required. Troubleshoots data mismatches between ASPerIN/Aurora and PeopleSoft. Continues to develop best practice procedures as Aurora is placed in service and partners with Aurora and PeopleSoft Product Management team regarding necessary updates.
  • Monitor/approve and reconcile off-cycle check requests and payments.
  • Review and approve special Teaching Fellow off cycle runs provided at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
  • Prepare, process and reconcile monthly External Post-Doctoral fringe benefit charges and allocation.
  • Oversee upload of additional pay and reappointment actions and costing changes into PeopleSoft.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in payroll, finance, accounting or relevant field
  • Knowledge of payroll laws
  • Experience with enterprise-wide financial and payroll systems
  • Supervisory Experience
