Overview

This position is on 3rd shift.

Reporting to the Arc Weld Manager, the Metal Finisher is primarily responsible for grinding, filing, or sanding surfaces of metal items or parts.

Responsibilities
  • Examines and feels surface of metal to detect defects such as dents, scratches, or breaks in metal.
  • Grinds, files, or sands surfaces of metal items, such as automobile bodies and household appliances, using handtools, power tools, and knowledge of metal finishing techniques: Examines and feels surface of metal to detect defects, such as dents, scratches, or breaks in metal.
  • Removes dents, using hammer and dolly block, and fills uneven surface with molten solder.
  • Smooths surface of item to specified finish, using handtools and powered tools.
  • May polish metal surface, using powered polishing wheel or belt.
  • Polishes metal surface.
  • Examines finished work pieces to verify conformance with specifications according to operator inspection sheet, quality control plans and/or customer notes using instruments such as gauges.
  • Perform prescribed preventative maintenance on equipment and machines.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Previous experience with metal finish tools.
  • Previous knowledge of metal finish functions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, welding symbols, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Demonstrated detail orientation, self motivation skills and ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent at basic dimensional measuring and able to quickly learn the use of precision measurement tools.
  • Demonstrated competency in basic shop math.
  • Previous experience with overhead crane use is desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change.
  • Work in an efficient and timely manner
  • Aptitude to take orders and execute the same efficiently
  • Demonstrated detail orientation, self motivation skills and ability to multi-task
