The Research Associate will serve as key staff on two externally-funded research projects. The first project evaluates the impact of body worn cameras on a variety of police-citizen encounter outcomes in Boston. For this project, the Research Associate will oversee the collection of police call for service, arrest, incident, field contact, and officer data. The Research Associate will prepare databases, design statistical models, and execute analyses. The second project evaluates the impact of procedural justice policing on police-citizen encounter in crime hot spots in Lowell. For this project, the Research Associate will collect and analyze call for service and incident data to identify crime hot spot locations. The Research Associate will also supervise graduate and undergraduate students in the collection of pre-intervention and post-intervention resident interviews and systematic social observations data. Other responsibilities include the monitoring of intervention integrity via data analysis and police ride-alongs. For both projects, the Research Associate will collaborate with the Principal Investigators on the completion of statistical analyses and the writing of technical reports, scholarly journal articles, and policy briefs.




Master’s degree in criminology, criminal justice, or closely-related social science discipline is required. PhD in criminology, criminal justice, or closely-related social science disciplines is preferred but not necessary (ABD candidates are welcome to apply). Prior experience in conducting social science research in police department settings and a solid knowledge of official police data systems is required. Strong database and statistical analysis skills are required. GIS mapping skills are also required. Demonstrated ability in writing high-quality academic reports and articles is required.
