Sr. Geologist

Job Description

    The project Geologist will support West Texas Region assets & various other operated and non-operated West Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma properties. Duties include geological mapping, supporting drilling operations, geosteering horizontal wells, following non-Op interest wells, & field development planning.

Major Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Structural mapping at the field and basin scale of multiple targets, cross-section preparation, isopach map construction for reserve estimation.
  • Location selection and prognoses for new wells.
  • Commercial evaluation of Operated & non-Operated wells with staff Engineering, Drilling & Completions personnel.
  • Geosteering of Horizontal wells & following non-Operated interest wells.
  • Generating well, field, and prospect presentations.

Required Skills

  • Proficient with MS Office applications, Access preferred
  • Experience using Petra (PC) and GeoFrame (Unix)
  • Sedimentological description, basic well log interpretation
  • Familiarity with Drilling Info / HPDI, IHS Enerdeq, & ArcGIS
  • Ability to work in an integrated, multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks & areas of responsibility concurrently
  • Good presentation skills a must
  • Large scale data organization, integration & synthesis

Required Experience

  • MS in Geology
  • 10+ years of applied experience
  • Basic understanding of drilling practices, well evaluation, & horizontal drilling / geo-steering
  • Subsurface geological mapping and cross section generation – seismic interpretation preferred
  • Foundation understanding of applied geochemistry, stratigraphy and sedimentology preferred
