L.L. Bean Manufacturing is looking for people passionate about creating quality products. Our manufacturing team is an amazing group of skilled individuals that take pride in hand crafting our heritage product, the Boat and Tote. 

We have a variety of stitching positions available that cover all aspects of production, from the very start of a product to the finish and shipment to customers.

All positions are temporary/full-time and based in Brunswick, Maine.

Summer Hours May 28th - September 6th: Monday-Thursday 2:45pm-11:45pm, Friday 12pm-6pm

Fall/Winter Hours September 9th and after: Monday-Friday 2:45pm-11:15pm

Responsibilities:

  • Stitches canvas components according to specifications using post or flat sewing machine.
  • Maintains accurate work logs.
  • Identification quality concerns & reports them to supervisor.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Available stitching positions include:

Folding:

  • Inserting heavy cotton duck into double fold and guiding through stitcher and attaching labels.
  • Move/retrieve cut parts from rack and move to bench.
  • Fold and stitch both the top and bottom of the body.
  • Insert labels in folded seam while doing the fold and stitch.
  • Place folded bodies on a rolling cart and move to a staging rack.

Handles:

  • Attach handles to bag. Pick up orders using a rolling cart, pick up color strip roll and mount on machine.
  • Take folded canvas from the case and lay machine surface, guide webbing with color strip into slot and stitch handles to bag.
  • Lift finished product onto a hanging rack.
  • Roll hanging rack 3 ft to staging area.

Pouches:

  • Aligns and stitches component parts in a prescribed manner on manual and automatic stitching machines.
  • Stitches components according to specifications using post or flat sewing machine.

Closing:

  • The task of stitching close the flat tote material into a bag.
  • Include rolling a rack of flat tote material to a work station, retrieving material from rack, bringing sides together and stitching sides and bottom corners closed.
  • May need to stitch gussets into bag. Finished bag is then deposited onto a belt.

Packing:

  • Packing encompasses the physical tasks of inspecting, folding, tagging, sealing in plastic and packing the finished bag.
  • Tasks include building boxes, removing the bag from the belt, placing on desk to inspect, tagging it( with the exception of Japan bags), placing a media card inside, folding the bag, placing the bag on the sealer machine under a layer of plastic wrap and sealing the bag by closing the top of the seam sealer.
  • A label is then placed on the sealed bag and the bag is placed into a cardboard box sitting in a cart roller. When a case is full the box is closed and rolled to a nearby pallet.
  • The case is lifted out of the rolling cart and placed on the pallet.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Intermediate English skills - speaks in sentences, participates in short conversations, may require simplified language
  • Communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Stitching experience preferred but not required

Job physical demands:

  • Standing
  • Walking
  • Limited seated positions
  • Grip, grasp, pull, push, wrist flex, static posture
