Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Advisor II, Workforce provides advising to workforce and CTE students serving as first line of contact and as a resource on services available to students. Provides direction and referrals to workforce students to meet the students' needs from career guidance, through program selection and completion, and into job search preparations. Meets with students on a regular basis to track their success and progress, reporting on progress of students and involves others to assist with their success. Serves as a resource to colleagues on workforce and CTE programs, labor market information, and program requirements. This is a temporary, grant-fundedposition. Continuationofthepositionfromoneacademicyeartothenextisdependentupon continued grantfunding.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides information to students on workforce and CTE awards and the occupations associated with the awards; Provides information on the application process for competitive admissions programs
  • Assists students in the career exploration process, including providing assistance with career exploration tools and interest assessments
  • Advises students on proper course selection for workforce and CTE programs including course prerequisites, co-requisites, and recommended course sequence
  • Advises students on opportunities for transfer of AAS degrees into bachelor degrees
  • Provides coaching and advising to students on skills to develop clear and attainable educational plans
  • Tracks and provides data on students with declared workforce majors; May include success, retention, completion and graduation rates as well as other data
  • Tracks students through program completion and provides assistance in completing graduation checks and applications
  • Advises students with job search for in-school students, externship students and graduate's employment in the field of study
  • Provides information on job search and interviewing techniques and in appropriate follow up; Provides resources for interview preparation
  • Advises and assists students and graduates in developing resumes and cover letters; Contacts students who have workforce credits or are close to workforce award completion but are not enrolled in courses and advises on steps to completion
  • Serves as a resource to colleagues in advising, admissions, outreach and other areas on workforce programs and CTE awards
  • Works collaboratively with faculty, student recruitment and retention; Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community
  • Provides students with information and proper referrals to available resources and services on campus
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:  

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience advising in workforce education
  • Experience as a career advisor or career counselor
Salary

Hiring salary range is $44,793 - $51,512

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions.  Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.  Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.  The information outlined below will provide the Office of Human Resources everything needed to determine an accurate starting salary.
