JOB SUMMARY

The Credit Underwriter Assistant Manager executes higher risk and more complex consumer and small business underwriting decisions, exercising a very high level of designated authority within the Credit Union.  This role is primarily responsible for reviewing, analyzing, underwriting, and decisioning complex consumer and small business loans in accordance with OnPoint’s lending policies, underwriting guidelines and procedures.  Works with representatives from all delivery channels to meet the borrowing needs of the membership and promote the financial well-being of the membership while ensuring the safety and soundness of OnPoint.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures staff has the skill, knowledge and resources to perform all aspects of their job successfully. Plans and leads department discussions/meetings for training, development and educational purposes.
  • Plans, monitors and conducts employee’s performance appraisals as well as performance coaching in conjunction with Consumer Underwriting Manager.
  • Management of the Consumer and Small Business credit process
  • Exercises high level of consumer and small business lending authority and loan limits.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and decisions higher dollars and/or more complex consumer and small business loans (including Dealer Direct), submitted to Credit Administration. Underwrite in accordance within OnPoint policies and all governing state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Assesses the importance, urgency and risk associated with each situation to make decisions and develop viable solutions in support of meeting the member’s needs and the Credit Union’s objectives.  Assesses product/loan alternatives in reaching making loan decisions.
  • Analyze and review documentation related to consumer and small business applications with emphasis on accuracy, legitimacy and completeness.
  • Reviews collateral value documents to ensure type of collateral and collateral value supports the loan amount.
  • Collaborates with other department to collect information related to consumer and small business lending decisions.
  • Analyze complex tax returns and cash flow including self-employed, rental, and corporate. 
  • Reviews income verification / tax analysis or paystubs to ensure income supports loan decision / recommendation.
  • Maintains knowledge of OnPoint’s consumer and small business loan products. 
  • Serves as an expert resource for lenders within the Credit Union.
  • Provide prompt attention and turnaround times on all loan applications.  Discuss loan denials, counteroffers and credit underwriting as it pertains to each loan evaluation with lenders.  
  • Recommends ideas and solutions for process improvements and risk prevention based on observations.
  • May participate in projects associated with the implementation of processes and procedures.   

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/COMPENTICIES

  • Maintains thorough knowledge of OnPoints consumer and small business lending policies, guidelines, practices.
  • Maintains working knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations in area of responsibility to include: Truth in Lending, Reg. B, CIP, FCRA, OFAC, BSA, and Military Lending Act)
  • Ability to analyze basic and complex tax returns and financial statements (Self-employment, Corporate, Rental).
  • Ability to read and analyze Credit Reports. 
  • Knowledge of business entity structures.
  • Knowledge of OnPoint’s products, services and procedures; to include, but not limited to: loans and loan servicing, deposit accounts and servicing, Credit Cards, new memberships
  • Knowledge of auto pricing practices, reserve practices, auto buying and auto financing structures.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate. Effective and comfortable engaging others, building rapport and handling differences.  Skilled at diplomatically and constructively responding to challenging situations; maintaining composure and displaying patience.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and compute rate and percentages.  Skilled at using ten-key and data entry’.  Knowledge of basic computer skills and ability to learn and use software tools.

  • Exceptional time management skills with strong ability to coordinate and prioritize workload in high volume area. Ability to work independently.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum three (3-5) years of consumer and lending experience.
  • Minimum three (1-3) years of supervisory experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience in analyzing RE Title Report, RE Appraisals/valuations preferred.
  • Proficient in working with XP and LPQ operating systems preferred.
  • Microsoft Office Suite application knowledge (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required.
  • Availability to work early evenings and/or Saturday hours periodically.
