Assistant Music Venue Manager (Part-Time)

Position Summary
The part-time Assistant Venue Manager is responsible for providing support to the Chair of the Music Department and the Venue Manager in the Department of Musicwithin the College of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences. The Department of Music is a fast-paced work environment that practices service excellence for its constituents. The Assistant Music Venue Manager reports to the Chair of the Department of Music.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to effectively interpret and understand technical documents and drawings.
  • Ability to effectively perceive and make subtle adjustments to lighting intensity and hue.
  • Ability to effectively perceive and make adjustments to audio quality and intensity in technical systems.
  • Ability to effectively respond quickly and with precision to event issues which may occur.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task within a fast-paced academic administrative environment.
  • Ability to work constructively in a collaborative environment demonstrating professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to interact with clients in a positive, friendly, and helpful way.

  • Excellent written communication skills, to include proficiency in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and other English language skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and Outlook or equivalent.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Work Experience
At least one (1) year of experience performing similar functions in a higher education or similar environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Venue manager training.
  • One (1) year experience working with computerized audio consoles and lighting systems.
  • Knowledge of Canvas CMS.
  • Knowledge of SCT Banner (Oracle-based, Internet-native technology solution) for the higher education community.
  • Fluent in Spanish language.
  • Experienced in communicating effectively and efficiently with constituent groups both verbally and in writing.

Work Hours
Approximately 20 hours per week within schedule of Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm during non-event weeks. Hours will vary for weeks with event(s) scheduled to include evening and weekend hours to execute and monitor event(s).

Physical Demands
  • Ability to work at heights in excess of 30 feet.
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs and ladders and traverse catwalks.
  • Ability to actively engage in events for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly move about event venues to actively engage attendees, performers, and crew as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
  • Ability to push/pull equipment such as pianos, as well as assist in the set-up/tear down stackable chairs and music stands.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 lbs of stage equipment.
  • Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat to retrieve or store office materials.
