Position Summary
The Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education at the University of Southern Indiana invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Education with a focus in Literacy/Reading to begin August 2025.
Duties/Responsibilities
The faculty member is expected to teach literacy using the science of reading approach for undergraduate education majors, teach graduate courses for in-service teachers, advise students, serve on dissertation committees, engage in service-related activities including participation in departmental, college, and university committees and professional organizations; and initiate research and grant activities leading to scholarly presentations and publications.
The faculty member will have the potential to develop a research agenda that leads to scholarly works and the engagement of students. Start-up funds and other financial support are available to initiate a productive research effort.
Although some courses are taught in distance education formats, applicants should expect an on-campus presence throughout their employment term.
Required Knowledge and Skills
A Doctorate in Education with a focus on literacy or a closely related field is required along with a minimum of 3 years of full-time teaching experience in a P-6 classroom setting. Doctoral candidates will be considered at the rank of Instructor if the terminal degree will be completed by the end of their first year of employment. If employment starts in August 2025, terminal degree must be completed by the end of July 2026.
