Carpentry Program Director (Full-time)
POSITION PURPOSE: The Carpentry Program Director reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer and is responsible for overseeing and providing classroom instruction and/or skill development training in both the classroom & shop for all the students in the carpentry program. The director coordinates curriculum with the CAO and other program directors, as necessary, and supervises full-time and part-time (adjunct) instructor(s).
DUTIES: Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrate carpentry expertise in a fully equipped facility.
- Prepare/update required course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, and catalog descriptions for courses. Integrate academic and student performance information within the College's Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas.
- Assist in curriculum planning, including assessing, developing, and implementing curriculum additions, deletions, and revisions for assigned courses.
- Plan and coordinate the logistics for course functions, including: instructional equipment and supplies; field trips; off-campus appointments; and guest speaker presentations to the students.
- Order, purchase, and store supplies and materials.
- Oversee compliance with applicable safety standards, OSHA regulations, accident prevention rules and procedures, and hazardous materials handling requirements in the shop and on all school-related projects.
- Prepare shop facilities for open houses, Board evaluations, guest tours, government inspections, and other special events.
- Teach general and specific shop (laboratory) and theory classes and those associated with the advanced carpentry.
- Supervise student work on shop or campus projects.
- Assist individual students with classroom assignments and skill development to encourage successful attainment of program standards.
- Regularly and consistently monitor and record student aptitude and performance in classroom and/or shop setting by means of standard instruments of evaluation and submit grades to the Registrar as required for assigned course.
- Implement the College's academic policies, such as those relating to grading academic probation, course failure compensation.
- Attend and participate in scheduled In-Service Training sessions.
- Assist the administration as needed through service on various administrative committees.
- Participate in college disciplinary processes as needed, such as those regarding Disciplinary Appeal, Disciplinary Review, and Scholarship Review.
- Assist students in adjusting to established disciplinary standards and in internalizing the vital moral, ethical, and spiritual values of the College, with special emphasis on developing a positive work ethic.
- Enforce student compliance with the College's Conduct Code, including regulations regarding attendance, dress and grooming, drug and alcohol abuse, fire and safety, and those general regulations that embody the ideals of gentlemanly behavior.
- Attend and perform any assigned duties for special events, such as: FYE, Freshman Orientation, Convocation, Homecoming, Applicant Interviewing Days, Founder's Day, Service Week, Spring Cleanup, Commencement, and Alumni Day.
- Comply with all college policies and procedures as described in the Employee Handbook.
- Serve as Officer on Duty on a periodic basis, as scheduled.
- Perform other duties as may occasionally be assigned by the President, Provost and/or Vice President of Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible trade experience in the carpentry field, to at least the level of job site supervisor or the equivalent.
- Must have at least 1 specialty area under the umbrella of carpentry, with the ability to teach advance carpentry skills.
- Must be able to show a command of relevant theory and practice, contemporary knowledge, and best practices in the carpentry field.
- An associate’s degree or higher (preferred not required).
- Have teaching experience at the secondary and/or post-secondary level (highly preferred but not required).
- Have an OSHA 30 certification (preferred not required).
COMPENSATION: Based on educational qualifications and applicable industry, leadership and teaching experience, the annual salary for the non-tenured, ten-month appointment is in the competitive range and includes an excellent benefits package.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical demands of the position require standing on your feet for extended periods (at least 3-hour stints) of time to teach in the classroom and shop, while also being able to handle the physical demands of the carpentry profession.
- Physical demands also require teaching labs, using visual, audio and computer assisted technology, as needed.
