As an accredited public health department, we're seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Communicable Disease Specialist 2 to join the North Central Health District in Macon, GA.

Job Responsibilities

  • Works and communicates with the general public, internal customers, and/or external customers to provide information and quality services and/or products.
  • Conduct home visits and other types of field investigations for persons at risk for STD/HIV/TB; locate hard to reach clients and effectively utilizes venipuncture techniques in field investigation efforts as needed.
  • Conduct STD/HIV Education, triage clients, conduct assessments of risk factors, and refers clients for follow-up and provide appropriate services to client dually infected with STD/HIV/TB, maintains client files and other documents and reports in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provide partner services interviews of infected STD patients and contacts in the field and clinic setting.  Perform pre and post-test HIV counseling on patients requesting HIV tests in clinic/filed setting and ensure linkage to HIV primary care.
  • Complete interviews, re-interviews, and cluster interviews on assigned cases when necessary and provide timely updates and recommendation of closure of all open cases.
    Prepares and maintains records and reports on program activities and provide accurate documentation of case activities.
  • Obtains medical and epidemiological histories, performs investigations, data collection and analysis, interpretation and responses.
  • Conduct community screenings, health fairs, and pop-up events throughout the 13 counties within NCHD. Identifies, contacts, and recruits community members for participation in communicable disease education and prevention programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree from an accredited college or university two (2) years of experience in a related area

OR four (4) years of experience in a medical-related field; or licensure as a registered nurse AND one (1) year of nursing experience

OR one (1) year of experience at the lower level Communicable Disease Spec 1 (HCP080) or position equivalent. 

Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the minimum qualification’s preference will be given to applicants with experience with:

  • Providing STD and HIV/AIDS case management and testing services.
  • Have good working knowledge of best practice counseling approaches, interventions and strategies that have been proven effective with the high-risk populations.  
  • Have a working knowledge of HIV/AIDS and treatment and linkage to care services. 
  • Experienced with a multi-disciplinary team approach.
  • Prior networking and community outreach experience desired. 
  • Public Health experience.

Employment Information

All approved teleworking employees must reside within the state of Georgia and depending on the responsibilities of the position, must live within reasonable driving distance of the agency’s primary worksite and be able to report to the office when required.

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.

DPH accepts Educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.
