The Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) organization is responsible for managing relationships with millions of Merchants and Partners around the world that facilitate American Express acceptance, and enabling the day-to-day operations of our company’s payment network.

The role of the Global Merchant & Network Pricing (GMNP) team is to design and implement global pricing strategies that support our coverage objectives and optimize our Discount Revenue. This revenue stream is the single largest source of American Express’ revenue and Merchant Pricing strategies play a key role in driving financial performance.

Key responsibilities

The Director of Discount Rate Planning & Insights is responsible for:

  • The planning and forecasting activities of the Global Discount Rate which is the key metric that underpins our largest revenue stream.
    • Lead the day-to-day operations of the team to execute all Global Discount Rate planning and forecasting processes, including Annual Plan, LRP, periodic forecasts and results analysis
    • Define and develop innovative reporting methodologies to better understand and action performance trends
    • Collaborate with various global partners, including Finance, to improve Discount Rate performance, further streamline processes, and achieve greater standardization across the regional Pricing teams
    • Elevate the level of analytics to drive improved pricing performance
    • Maintain and refresh all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) including Process Maps and Risk and Control Documentation
  • Being the voice behind Discount Rate Performance
    • Partner with the Senior Finance Leaders to align on planning processes, review analyses, and provide performance insights
    • Review all major planning deliverables with GMNS President
    • Design and develop Executive Committee materials that inform on trends and projections
    • Develop Discount Rate inputs for Board meeting materials
  • Building and developing a talented and versatile team

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ Years’ experience in pricing or business/financial analysis or related discipline
  • Able to engage, motivate and develop a team of high-performing, high-energy colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Excellent financial analysis and problem-solving skills with ability to translate complex financial terms into key insights
  • Superior written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet critical deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of SQL, TM1, Cornerstone advantageous
  • MBA or other professional qualification preferred

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
