Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The enterprise architect proactively and holistically leads and supports enterprise architecture activities that guide the development and management of a portfolio of solutions. Solutions include projects, products, systems (including applications, technologies, processes, and information), shared infrastructure services and shared application services and components to enable and drive targeted business outcomes.

He/she has a deep understanding of business goals, objectives and business outcomes, business capabilities, value-streams, and business processes. The enterprise architect provides the necessary leadership and performs analysis / design tasks to support the development of technology solutions. He / she has overall responsibility to ensure that solutions meet business needs and align with architectural governance and standards. He or she creates deliverables for managing the organization's portfolio of target-state, interim and current-state solutions.

Translating Business Strategy into Architecture

  • Understands business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state) and determines corresponding enterprise system designs and change requirements to drive the organization's targeted business outcomes.
  • Understands emerging technology trends and disruptions and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business and operating models.
  • Translates business and technical requirements into an architectural blueprint.
  • Owns and drives deliverables such as standard definitions, capability models, reference architecture models and design patterns to help align and accelerate projects and ongoing technology investment.
  • Acts as a consultant to internal teams on a broad range of technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomes.

Leading Solution Design and Analysis

  • Leads evaluation, design, and analysis for the implementation of solutions across a group of specific business applications or technologies based on enterprise business strategy, business capabilities, value-streams, business requirements and enterprise standards.
  • Creates architectural designs to guide and contextualize solution development across products, services, projects and systems.
  • Creates reference architectures focused on detailed design principles, decision points, detailed APIs, major systems and dependencies between business and IT.
  • Manages and develops the architecture for a portfolio of projects or products, working closely with application development, network, infrastructure, security and operations teams.
  • Analyzes the business-IT environment (run, grow and transform the business) to identify critical deficiencies, technical debt, and recommends solutions for improvement.

Orchestrating Solutions Delivery

  • Designs and directs the governance activities associated with ensuring solutions comply with architecture standards.
  • Defines the principles, guidelines, standards, and solution patterns to ensure solution decisions are aligned with the enterprise's future-state architecture vision.
  • Facilitates the evaluation and selection of software product standards and services, as well as the design of standard and custom software configurations.
  • Monitors the current-state solution portfolio to identify deficiencies through aging application technologies.
  • Identifies the organizational impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures, or culture) and financial impact of the enterprise architecture.

Facilitating and Collaborating to Deliver Business Outcomes

  • Provides consulting support to clinical and operational teams to assist with business capability alignment and technology product selection.
  • Consults with application, infrastructure, and security teams on solution options analysis and technology selection.
  • Support the Enterprise Architect in the development of the IT architectural vision and roadmap to deliver against organizational objectives.
  • Support the development and implementation of tactical plans to implement cybersecurity capabilities designed to improve the security posture of the company.
  • Support the development of best practices and frameworks for architecture definition, sizing, solution options analysis, UI/UX design, etc.
  • Partner with the Enterprise Architect to establish domain-specific reference models for business and technology capabilities for use in strategic planning and analysis
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions within the IT organization to develop an understanding of delivery and operational processes
