Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Dosimetry Health Physicist to work in our Environment, Safety, Health and Quality department. Our team works a onsite 4x10 schedule located out of our Central Facilities, Idaho Falls, Idaho with every Friday off. Hybrid work opportunities may be available for this position.

You will perform analyses and impact evaluations in design, research, training, and monitoring programs to protect plant and laboratory personnel from radiation hazards. Participate in the design, maintenance, and enhancement of ongoing radiation monitoring programs. You will report to Instrumentation and Dosimetry Manager.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform oversight and technical input, regulatory impact reviews, technical evaluations, and other critical support activities regarding Radiation Protection program implementation in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 835, applicable DOE Orders, and the INL Radiological Control Manual and associated INL Radiological Control procedures.
  • Identify deficiencies, develop appropriate corrective actions, provide technical guidance for development of radiological control policies and procedures, review new regulatory requirements for applicability, and review research and operations projects and programs for compliance with radiological control requirements.
  • Use defined technical knowledge in area of expertise to build and maintain external relationships to advance laboratory initiatives and technologies. Provide opportunities for growth and collaborations with inter and intralaboratory partnerships.
  • Provide subject matter expert analysis and support ranging from designing radiation-detection instrumentation to establishing technical basis for laboratory radiation protection standards. 
  • Evaluate and provide selected options for program implementation within the framework of DOE and INL requirements to include being the primary author for any associated technical reports (e.g., formal briefings to senior management).
  • Develop and assist as necessary with training programs for future health physicists, radiological engineers, and radiological technicians.
  • Generate ideas for new proposals and business development opportunities. Prepare materials for scientific and technical products, reports, documents, presentations, and concept papers. Author technical reports to include formal briefings to senior leadership and/or program sponsors.
  • May participate in National or International standards setting institutions.
  • May be responsible for the DOELAP accredited program and associated documentation. Related duties include reviewing, approving, uploading external dosimetry data, and performing vendor audits. Provide oversight and review of external dosimetry practices and procedures to assure correct implementation of proper practices across the Site.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Level 2: Bachelor's degree in Health Physics or related science or technical discipline plus 2+ years of relevant experience, or Masters in Health Physics or related science or technical discipline.
  • Level 3: Bachelor's degree in Health Physics or related science or technical discipline plus 5+ years of relevant experience, or Masters in Health Physics or related science or technical discipline.
  • NRRPT registration or ABHP certification desirable.


Job Information: 

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($75,804 - $155,496) / Level 3 ($91,008 - $186,588). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
