The Dozoretz Hospice House of Hampton Roads is hiring a Hospice Aide.

Schedule: 

Night Shift 7pm-7am

PRN

I.  QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current, unencumbered Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in the State of Virginia.
  • CPR certification (or must obtain within the first 60 days of employment).
  • Able to speak, read, and write English and shall meet one of the following qualifications before providing services to the hospice program patients:
  • Have certification asa  certified  nursing assistant issued by the Virginia Board of Nursing;
  • Be successfully enrolled in a nursing education hospice program preparing for registered nurse or practical nurse licensure and have currently completed at least one nursing course that includes clinical experience involving patient care; 
  • Completion of a Food Sanitation course after hire. 

II. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living; ambulation and prescribed exercise; and other special duties with appropriate training and demonstrated competency.
  • Assist with mobility and positioning, including the use of assistive devices.
  • Monitor and record vital signs as indicated in the plan of care.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to patients and families.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Complies with current infection control policies and protocols.
  • Record and report changes in the patient's physical condition, behavior, or appearance to healthcare professionals.
  • Document services and observations in the medical record.
  • Perform any other duties that an CNA is qualified to do by additional training and demonstrated competency within state guidelines.
  • Assist with meal/snack preparation; serve food in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards and guidelines and our established policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate infection control and sanitation knowledge concerning food temperatures, hand hygiene, gloves use, and dating food items.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
  • Organizes work schedule and utilizes time management to complete assignments.
  • Maintains accurate and complete medical record documentation.
  • Observes confidentiality and safeguards all patient-related information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Communicates to the supervisor if unable to meet a patient’s need or perform a procedure.
  • Immediately report any accident, incident, lost articles, or unusual occurrence to the Clinical Coordinator or Hospice Director. 
  • Adheres to the code of ethical behavior and models our core values of respect, passion, and professionalism at all times
  • Maintains skills and knowledge, keeping all required certifications current.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
  • Organizes work schedule and utilizes time management to attend all required meetings and team conferences.
  • Adheres to the HHHR code of ethical behavior and models our core values of respect, passion, and professionalism at all times.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned. 
     

III. JOB CONDITIONS

  • Physical Requirements:
    • Requires considerable physical effort most of the day, including kneeling, squatting, reaching, twisting, climbing, walking, exposure to temperature and humidity changes, and maximal assistance in lifting and/or transferring of a 100-pound patient. 
    • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use appropriate adaptive devices that will enable senses to function at a level required to meet the essential duties of the position
    • Must provide evidence of annual TB test and other state-required tests or examinations. 
  • Mental Requirements:
    • Must be able to work independently, make judgments based on assessments and data available, and act accordingly.
    • Must be flexible, innovative, and possess good interpersonal skills. 
    • Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Working Conditions: 
    • Be able to tolerate exposure to elements including, but not limited to, odors, blood, body fluids and excrements, adverse environmental conditions, and hazardous materials. 

IV. ORIENTATION AND TRAINING

Dozoretz Hospice House of Hampton Roads will provide orientation and training, as necessary, to assist the Registered Nurse in performing the responsibilities listed above. Trainings may be held in-house, or outside seminars.  Evidence of orientation and training will become part of the personnel file.

V.  ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Reports directly to the Hospice IPU Clinical Coordinator
  • Works cooperatively with all members of the Interdisciplinary Team

The Dozoretz Hospice Hospice House of Hampton Roads is a 12 bed Inpatient Hospice facility opening in the Spring of 2024.  Beth Sholom and Westminster Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay have partnered to operate and manage the house.
