Howmet Aerospace has an immediate opening for an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist at our Rochester, NY location. The position provides an excellent platform for potential future growth to the successful candidate.

Howmet Engines is a world-class producer of aero engine and industrial gas turbine components, including airfoils, rings, disks and forgings. We excel in vacuum melted superalloys, machining, performance coatings and hot isostatic pressing for high performance parts that enable the next generation of quieter, more fuel-efficient aero engines and cleaner power generation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Assist with location fatality prevention efforts including helping to lead deployment and execution of key fatality prevention elements and coaching location leaders.
  • Analyze injury and incident data and assist line management in the implementation of focused injury reduction efforts. Provide expertise to proactively address injury reduction efforts.
  • Assist with the facility’s industrial hygiene program including execution of IH sampling plans, the administration of IH databases and employee exposure records, hazardous material management, ergonomics oversight and serve as the radiation protection technical resource.
  • Provide technical expertise and participate in injury/incident investigations to assist in identifying root cause analysis and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Coach and counsel departmental leaders in the execution of their EHS accountabilities.
  • Partner with location leadership to deliver EHS objectives.
  • Lead and assist with other EHS accountabilities.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • At least 2 years of environmental, health or safety experience in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental, safety or health discipline from an accredited institution
  • 3 years of environmental, health or safety experience in a manufacturing environment.

Essential Skills:
  • Demonstrated professional with passion for change and relentless focus on execution.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State EHS related regulations and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, analytical skills, problem solving and human relations skills.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions with sometimes an incomplete set of data.
  • Critical skills include: Execution, attention to detail, initiative, conflict resolution, customer focus, collaboration, building ownership and commitment, establishing a direction, drive for change, gaining organization support and tenacity.

Salary Range:

$65,500 to $80,000 depending on experience


Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
