The agency is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Emergency Mgt Spec 2 or 3 within the Fulton County Board of Health in the Emergency Preparedness Division. 
This is a grant funded position.

Job Responsibilities

The purpose of this position is to provide guidance, support, and technical assistance to state and local public health departments and communities to prepare, prevent, respond, and rapidly recover from public health threats critical to protecting and securing the nation’s public health.

Emergency Mgt Spec 2
Under general supervision, coordinates disaster response or crisis management activities, provides disaster preparedness training and prepares emergency plans and procedures.

Emergency Mgt Spec 3
Under broad supervision, plans, develops, and implements emergency preparedness initiatives. Coordinates disaster response or crisis management activities provides disaster preparedness training and prepares emergency plans and procedures. May supervise subordinate staff.

  • Under general supervision, coordinates disaster response or crisis management activities, provides disaster preparedness training and prepares emergency plans and procedures. 
  • Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision 
  • Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas 
  • Administers emergency/disaster preparedness training 
  • Collaborates with others to prepare and analyze damage assessments following emergencies 
  • Coordinates disaster response or crisis management activities such as opening shelters, special needs programs and evacuation 
  • Develops and performs test and evaluation of emergency management plans according to state and federal guidelines 
  • Develops, plans, and implements emergency preparedness initiatives 
  • Inspects equipment and facilities to determine their operational and functional capabilities 
  • May supervise subordinates 
  • Oversees training activities and monitors budget 
  • Monitors the operational readiness of hospitals, community health centers, and other responders by observing and participating in periodic training exercises and drills
  • Supports planning and preparedness activities of hospitals and other response partners to develop integrated responses to emergencies
  • Assists with the coordination and response to emergency hazards.
  • Gathers, compiles, and analyzes data and submits reports to the appropriate authorities
  • Reports activities on SharePoint
  • Coordinates the operation and maintenance of assigned emergency operations center equipment: maintains working knowledge of systems; tests systems; troubleshoots and repairs communications and information technology equipment; serves as systems administrator during emergencies; recruits and manages related volunteer positions
  • Ensures compliance with local, state and Federal rules, regulations and standards concerning emergency management, and hazardous materials incidents: collects, maintains, analyzes and interprets data; provides recommendations to command level decision-makers
  • Participates in the notification of operational emergency response organizations and activation of public notification systems.
  • Job duties include assisting with emergency response planning as well as the development, execution, and documentation of exercises and drills 
  • Developing and implementing corrective action plans
  • Engaging in community outreach and educational activities intended to promote emergency preparedness
  • Assisting with any operational needs during times of response; managing a broad scope of volunteers
  • Performs duties related to supporting emergency preparedness initiatives and assisting in formulating and maintaining emergency plans, procedures, and checklists needed in response to Public Health-related or other emergency events. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in public health, emergency management, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience OR High school diploma or GED AND Two years of experience in emergency management.
