As a Environmental Health Specialist within the Washington County Health Department at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Job Responsibilities

Under direct supervision of the County Environmental Health Manager, will be to provide inspection/permitting/consultation for compliance of state rules and regulations for the Washington County Environmental Health for the following facilities within the county:  Food Service, Public Swimming Pools, Tourist Accommodations, and Body Art.  In addition, the person hired for this position will provide services within the Wastewater Management, Well Water, Emergency Preparedness, Rabies, and other environmental health programs as well as investigate all assigned health-related complaints received.   Salary will be adjusted based on prior DPH Environmental Health experience and degree of education as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.).

Additional Experience Required for EHS II: one year of full-time professional-level environmental health experience equivalent to an Environmental Health Specialist I.
 
Additional Experience Required for EHS III: two years of full-time professional-level environmental health experience equivalent to an Environmental Health Specialist II.
 
Additional Experience Required for EHS IV:  three years of full-time professional-level environmental health experience equivalent to an Environmental Health Specialist III.  The successful applicant will also have at least one year’s program supervisory experience.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR EHS II, III, and IV. Applicants considered for EHSII, EHSIII, and EHSIV positions will be ranked and offered interviews according to the qualifications they already possess.  Proof of completion must be provided.
 

• Successfully completed the Department of Public Health (DPH) New Hire training course titled:   General EH (EPI, Emergency Preparedness, Lead, Chemical Hazards, Vector Control, IAQ.)
• Successfully completed the DPH New Hire training course titled:  TA/Pools/Spas and Recreational Waters
• Successfully completed the DPH New Hire training course titled:  Land Use
• Successfully completed the DPH New Hire training course titled:  Food Service
• Successfully completed the DPH training course titled:  Introduction to Soils
• Successfully completed the DPH training course titled:  Level II Soils Training
• Current and valid certification as an Inspector Level I
• Additional Inspector certifications obtained:  Drip Emitter, Mound/Area Fill, Commercial, Pump-ST, Pump-PS
• Current Georgia Standardized Food Service Establishment Inspection Officer
• Certified Food Safety Manager through one of the following:  360training.com, Inc., National Registry of Food Safety Professionals, National Restaurant Association, or Prometric, Inc.
• Nationally recognized swimming pool operator course through one of the following:  (CPO, LAFT, CPT, AFO)
• Successfully completed the Blood Borne Pathogens certification course
• Successfully completed First Aid
• Successfully completed CPR
• Successfully completed IS-100
• Certified Healthy Homes Specialist
• Registered Environmental Health Specialist
