Information Technology Systems Administrator 

ENTRY SALARY:                               Dependent on Qualifications

POSITION RANGE:                           $83,855 - $117,397/annum    

The Town of Groton, Connecticut is looking for an experienced IT professional to manage Town-wide systems administration. The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for successful maintenance, modification and updating of the Town’s networks, servers, and cybersecurity. The position serves in a lead capacity and supports the Director of Information Technology Services in advanced level responsibilities. This is a non-union, exempt, full-time position.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the general direction of the Director of Information Technology Services, the IT Systems Administrator is responsible for all aspects of the Town’s core IT functionality, including networks, applications, databases, and cybersecurity. The position administers backups and supports server, network and desktop hardware, software and applications. Monitors and manages datacenter resources to maintain operating efficiency. Performs or oversees system backup and recovery procedures. Troubleshoots and diagnoses severity of network problems and makes repairs with little or no assistance. Installs and maintains network servers, operating systems, printers, switches and other network equipment. The position will also conduct security risk assessments including monitoring, investigation and reporting of security and access violations.

The IT Systems Administrator serves as a lead resource for other members of the team and demonstrates key project management, customer service, and resolution skills. The position is responsible for researching and recommending hardware, software, communications and programming techniques to enhance performance. It is also responsible for assisting with technology planning through on-going research and analysis.     

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or Management Information Systems or closely related field with five (5) years related experience including current experience as a systems administrator on a medium sized network. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements. Demonstrated ability to administer a 250+ node network including firewalls. Demonstrated knowledge of Windows servers, Microsoft desktop products, networking concepts and technology, and cybersecurity fundamentals. Familiarity with programming languages and database administration. The ability to manage multiple projects, activities and tasks simultaneously is essential.

Criminal background, drug testing, and driving record checks required prior to employment.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES 

Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
