NE Renewable Power is made up of 7 Biomass electric generating power stations located in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.  These stations play a crucial role in supplying locally sourced renewable energy to the people of New England. Sprague brings over 150 years of energy operating experience to the operations of these facilities, and we’re hiring an Instrumentation and Controls Technician for the Tamworth, NH location.

The Instrumentation and Controls Technician (I&C) is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instrumentation, control valves, Control PLC’s  in the power plant and the associated facilities. The I&C Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection repair, testing, calibration, installation and removal of all electronic and I&C power plant equipment and systems.

Major Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Monitor facility I&C process, instrumentation, and control equipment for proper operation.
  • Troubleshoot problems associated with  instrumentation control systems components.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on facility I&C equipment to include 4-20mA controllers, instrumentation, control valves, dampers, and other components up to 120 VAC.c.
  • Maintain/troubleshoot/program the  Programmable Logic Control system.
  • Maintain inventory control of I&C and instrumentation spare parts.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating outside contractor work on instrumentation and controls   equipment.
  • Perform troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on process controls equipment that includes electro pneumatic positioners, control valves and transmitters.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot faults with facility control system(s).
  • Maintain/troubleshoot/audit boiler continuous emissions monitoring equipment.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance records for instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with common test instruments to include the Fluke, Megger, Signal Generator, Amprobe, etc.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in reading I&C schematics and diagrams.
  • Participate in  company safety training.
  • Installing new I&C equipment and systems for plant modifications and improvements.

Education / Experience / Skill Requirements:

  • High School Graduate
  • Graduation from an accredited I&C Technician Program or two years of work experience as a technician in a related industry.
  • Experience in working in power plant and combustion controls is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
  • Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and can work without direct supervision.
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Work within and ensure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • Basic data entry/computer skills
  • Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all the business challenges.

Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Requires extended working hours, varied shifts or 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required.
  • Includes working indoors and outdoors.
  • Includes working with high temperature liquid and high voltage equipment.

  • Physical requirements include the possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to work in elevated areas, confined spaces and in extreme heat and cold conditions.
