As a Laboratory Tech within the Cherokee County Health Department at the Georgia Department of Public Health,you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting the lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Location: Cherokee County Health Department in Canton, GA.
Job Responsibilities
Under direct supervision, prepares media and/or reagents for use in performing routine analysis of samples. Performs laboratory tests and procedures under appropriate supervision. Operates and assists in maintaining lab equipment,
Performs and collects laboratory tests:
- Obtains venipuncture blood samples for tests as ordered.
- Submits lab specimens accurately.
- Performs fingerstick, heel stick, and urine pregnancy testing.
- Using a guide for questions and health history, obtains information on client's past and present health history.
- Correctly enters information into the computerized medical record.
- Documents in a clear, complete, and concise manner all medical concerns, allergies, nutritional assessments, and physical conditions.
- Checks expiration dates on lab supplies and properly disposes of outdated items.
- Monitors refrigerator and freezer temperatures and records on log.
- Maintains an inventory of lab supplies and works with office staff.
- Collects and records results of lab tests and immediately forwards abnormal results to the Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner for review.
- Measures and records client's vital signs.
- Maintains HIV reports as assigned. Participates in public health events and emergency exercise drills. Drills and exercises may include health fairs, mass flu vaccine clinics, and emergency response events for a real or drill-purposed event.
- Assists nurses with follow for BCCP, FP, and etc.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Public Health experience.
- Back Office Medical Assistant experience.
- Phlebotomist experience.

CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.
All positions require criminal history record check. Required education credentials, license, certification and/or registration must be submitted prior to employment in the position. Some positions require pre-employment drug testing in which the applicant who is offered the position will be required to successfully complete.
