Position Purpose:
Responsible for leading laboratory technicians in performing routine tasks and simple analysis of hazardous waste samples in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. May perform specialized analysis under the direction of a Chemist to support applied quality assurance and control procedures. Maintain the laboratory as directed for compliance with company hygiene plans.

Primary Duties/responsibilities:
  • Proficient in all Lab Technician I and II essential duties and responsibilities
  • Direct the sampling of a variety of incoming hazardous waste materials and determines proper analytical methods required for compliance in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Maintain proficiency of troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical equipment and documents in accordance with quality assurance and control compliance.
  • Conduct all login procedures, both manual and electronic, of samples delivered to the laboratory, ensures proper labeling and paperwork.
  • Sub-sample a variety of waste materials, process and product samples and follows proper analytical methods required for compliance in accordance with established guidelines and training.
  • Conduct sample analysis on sub-samples per methods and procedures established by training and knowledge of analysis plans. Conducts QA/QC sample analysis and calibrations.
  • Ensure proper written and electronic documentation of all test results including QA/QC and audits sample documents prior to approval and completeness of summarizing data. Notifies disposition Chemist or staff member of completed analysis.
  • Prepare reagent solutions, standards and other laboratory solutions as directed by supervisor or lead technician per guidance and training.
  • Maintain proficiency of troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical equipment and documents in accordance with quality assurance and control compliance.
  • Experienced in all areas, including metals/PCB analysis, and able to function and produce high levels with minimum supervision and able to do routine troubleshooting on these instruments.
  • Be able to identify and bring to the attention of management result anomalies in a timely manner and trouble shoot common mistakes that a Lab Technician I or II may not recognize.
  • Eligible for enhanced compensation for additional duties within the Technical department (ie. Labpack approvals).
  • Perform periodic audits of analytical logs to ensure federal regulation compliance for completeness and error corrections.
  • Gather appropriate paperwork for management approvals and notifies staff of any incomplete sections needing attention.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:
  • Associate's degree with an emphasis in Chemistry required
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related science discipline preferred
  • Prior laboratory work experience required (4+ years preferred)

Required Certification / Licenses / Training:
  • 24-Hour HAZWOPER Training
