Through Global Network Services, American Express operates a payments network through which we establish and maintain relationships with third-party banks and other institutions in approximately 110 countries and territories, licensing the American Express brand and extending the reach of our global network. These network partners are licensed to issue local currency American Express-branded cards in their countries and/or serve as the merchant acquirer for local merchants on our network.
This Manager Controller role supports the GNS business for the LAC region and is a key Finance partner as the business seeks to continue its historically strong growth trajectory and critical role in the Company’s framework for winning. The main components of this role will include accounting advisory support for the business colleagues along with ensuring the financial integrity of the GNS business results through the application of US GAAP principles and American Express accounting policies.
Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Providing technical accounting research and guidance in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Supporting business growth activities such as new partner deals, pricing, and system enhancements through reviewing business contracts and advising Business and Finance partners on accounting and financial impacts.
- Establishing accounting and reporting requirements with continuous process improvements.
- Work closely with the technical accounting team to advise on accounting issues and ensure that accounting conclusions are properly analyzed and discussed, applied consistently, and documented properly through the preparation of well written and technically accurate memorandums.
- Support global GNS Controllership and business driven initiatives, business partner onboarding and training, implementing new policies and supporting other transformational projects.
- Oversight of GNS Americas financials ensuring accurate internal and external reporting and other balance sheet governance projects.
- Support all regulatory reporting requirements and audit related work.
- Collaborate cross functionally with different stakeholders across the organization on new partner deals.
The candidate will actively collaborate with Controllership and other Finance teams across various lines of business and ensure that all new product and deal activities have reliable financial controls and are consistent with best practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, specifically in the domain of Revenue Recognition and experience in accounting and reporting
- Strong relationship building skills and ability to influence without direct control.
- Ability to provide strategic thought leadership in complex scenarios, determine an appropriate solution and drive it through to implementation
- Demonstrated commitment to quality and accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven demonstration of personal excellence
- Ability to process information and apply concepts to similar scenarios
- Works well in a changing environment with tight deadlines
- Proven ability to collaborate across multiple functional teams and providing solutions to business/accounting challenges
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in Accounting or Finance, CPA Preferred
- Bachelors degree required, Accounting or Finance preferred
- Knowledge of Financial Services industry preferred
- SOX, Operational Risk and/or Audit experience preferred
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for this position.
Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
