DESCRIPTION-POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing the Maintenance Department including the repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools and facilities. Develops plans and initiatives to help eliminate causes of machine or equipment failure and ensures full useful life in coordination with daily maintenance completed by technicians. Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation to ensure continuous production operations. Inspects machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards. Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports to plan and modify maintenance activities. Oversee the custodial team and their duties. Oversee the facilities and organizing repairs and service of all facilities. This position’s suggestions and recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion or any other change of status of other employees must be given particular weight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE

  • Monitor the operation of plant equipment and systems to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Communicate when changes or service is being done to the facilities or machines to employees in the area of service or change to maintain safety.
  • Ensure that authorized vendors have appropriate liability and bonded documentation and are closely monitored for service to maintain safety precautions with our employees.
  • Ensure that all manufacturing / facility systems are properly resourced and that all resources are efficiently utilized.
  • Drive ownership of safety, productivity within the maintenance department and root cause analysis for equipment malfunctions or failures.
  • Provide technical support for efficient troubleshooting and maintenance repair to maximize efficiencies and limit downtime.
  • Provide leadership in implementing / maintaining preventive maintenance programs using reliability metrics, goals and tools.
  • Manage maintenance department costs within budgetary guidelines.
  • Ensure that appropriate inventory levels for standard replacement parts are maintained and reordered when necessary.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to coordinate and schedule maintenance and repair work in production area.
  • Maintain and update operating and training procedures for the maintenance department; ensure that all maintenance technicians are trained on the most updated version of operating procedures.
  • Maintain a computerized maintenance management system for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment.
  • Communicate regularly with all maintenance technicians to ensure two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
  • Plan, organize and direct maintenance staff and equipment to reduce costs and maximize production time by ensuring that equipment is running at standard production and scrap rates.
  • Participate in maintaining Quality Standards by ensuring that equipment is maintained properly and preventative maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Complete work orders in a satisfactory and timely manner.
  • Oversee the routine inspection, maintenance and repairs on all manufacturing equipment.
  • Responsible for on-the-job training for maintenance technicians, ensure duties, authority and accountability are defined and understood.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintain compliance with established safety policies and procedures.
  • Plan, organize and direct custodial staff to maximize custodian’s time by ensuring that processes, areas assigned are kept neat and clean effectively for all facilities.
  • Responsible for on-the-job training for custodial personnel, ensure duties, authority and accountability are defined and understood.
  • Communicate regularly with all custodial personnel to ensure two-way communication concerning janitorial issues.
  • Ensure that appropriate inventory levels for standard janitorial supplies are maintained and reordered when necessary for all facilities.
  • Ensure all custodial staff are trained and take proper precautions to maintain safety for all personnel in their custodial duties to help prevent safety issues.
  • Oversee and maintain all company vehicles for needed service, inspections or repairs.
  • Ensure proper logs of vehicles are maintained for maintenance, mileage and description of trips completed for each vehicle.
  • Monitor and participate in operations in assigned sections including the inspection of projects. Actively participate in the development and implementation of modifications and improvements in order to ensure that safe work practices and standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Communicate maintenance and custodial needs to managers as needed. Provide information related to projects including resolving problems, handling complaints and providing technical expertise in area of assignment.
  • Maintain logs and records of equipment maintenance. Complete required reports and other required documentation as needed.
  • Respond to service requests, coordinate resources and implement the set up and take down of furniture and equipment for a wide variety of events.
  • Complete work orders in a satisfactory and timely manner.

  • Troubleshoot and make necessary repairs on electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems in facilities.
  • Perform the following:
  • Oversee, monitor, move, set, erect, adjust, dismantle, clean and replace air condition components, exhaust fans, and air compressors.
  • Oversee, monitor, repair, install, maintain, test and replace electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Oversee, monitor, replace, repair, and install plumbing such as air lines, gas lines, stools, sinks, and floor drains.
  • Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS-JOB REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

Education: A High School diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a technical or engineering related field is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 8 years previous maintenance experience and 2 years’ experience in a supervisory position in a comparable setting required.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of production and production support systems.
  • Possess a good work attitude and a willingness to carry out instructions and duties as assigned, while working with all employees as a team.
  • Proficient in diagnosing malfunctions in equipment and identifying corrective action (troubleshooting skill).
  • Mechanical ability to understand the operation of equipment and perform equipment repairs
  • Reading comprehension skills to understand written instructions, manuals, and work orders.
  • Mathematical skill to perform basic calculations.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic controls and electrical systems.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful and even-tempered.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.


Licenses/Certifications: Must maintain a current forklift certification.
