Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Position Purpose

This position is responsible for managing the Manufacturing Engineering Team.  This group consist of Manufacturing Engineers, Product Specialists and Layout Technicians.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop the manufacturing engineering team.
  • Support HS&E safe work methods, ergonomics, and other HS&E initiatives as needed.
  • Facilitates development and maintenance of all shop floor work instructions to provide adequate instruction to shop floor personnel, ensure products are built to design specifications and meet product quality objectives.
  • Ensure entire Team is trained, and actively engaged in all necessary manufacturing execution system activities.
  • Responsible for ownership of operational readiness as part of the formal NPI Process. 
  • Responsible for production line balancing and factory labor planning process.
  • Lead effective process improvement activities to ensure attain safety, quality, cost and delivery goals and objectives.
  • Implement effective line layouts to improve material flow, optimize plant capacity, and eliminate waste.
  • Lead the preparation of major project planning, capital sanction requests and investments in plant, tooling, fixtures and equipment.
  • Ensure effective engagement and collaboration with Product Development Team to assist in developing and implementing DFM ideas.
  • Ensure effective engagement and collaboration with Quality Team to assist in defining root cause of quality defects and developing and implementing sustainable solutions.
  • Define, implement, and maintain effective capital investment and project execution planning tools to track and clearly articulate the status of capital projects and budget facilitation.
  • Identify, on-board and manage outside contractors as necessary to facilitate effective project completion.


Nature & Scope

Reports to Director of Manufacturing Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must pass applicable drug screens, background checks and pre-employment tests
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required, degree in manufacturing, industrial or mechanical engineering/technology preferred.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience in a similar capacity

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in mechanical, materials, or manufacturing engineering preferred

7+ years of manufacturing in a similar industry

  • Vast knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Effective customer service and communication skills
  • Able to use strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Sound analytical skills with a practical balance of “shop floor” experience
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment through delegation
  • Ability to beflexible in a fast-paced environment
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • PFMEA, risk assessments on equipment and safety


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work flexible schedule, including but not limited to weekends
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10lbs, frequently and/or move up to 35lbs, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs
  • Must be able to perform continuous, repetitious physical activities.  These activities may involve fine movements or large motions
  • Must be able to grasp/pinch small items, reach out and up, and turn wrist
  • Must be capable of keeping pace with current production speed
  • Must be able to push/pull with reasonable force
  • Must be able to perform the following requirements of bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to work in multiple climates including:  hot/cold temperatures, and dusty environment
