Position Purpose:
Mix Operator is responsible for the processing of bulk and containerized solids through the bulk material handling building (BMHB). This includes the operation of multiple pieces of complex equipment to ensure the proper solids mixes and blends are achieved and fed to the incinerator for thermal destruction. All job duties are performed in accordance with a detailed knowledge of the Standard Division Practices, Health and Safety regulations and industry standards, permit rules, and any other applicable company requirements

Primary Duties/responsibilities:
  • Inspect and monitor all equipment associated with the BMHB process which includes
    • Bridge cranes, shredders, prentice loaders, BTIs, conveyors, hydraulic pumps and motors, apron feeder, putzmeister, ventilation systems, and slide gates
  • Perform detailed logged rounds on all equipment, BMHB fire suppression systems, and building utilities such an nitrogen, water, and steam feeds
  • Coordinate material, build mixes, verify drums and boxes, dictate mix build orders, and work with customers on special feeds and time sensitive materials
  • Assist CSB and Material Handlers with Could Not Locate(CNL) drums by utilizing site specific computer programs to research, refresh, and reprint mix information on material to be collected.
  • Maintain detailed log book and keep accurate paper records for mixes built, dumped, and fed
  • Perform daily RCRA inspections and keep up to date environmental inspection records
  • Be proficient in startup and shutdown of all equipment in your area
  • Perform Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) for all equipment and systems in the BMHB for preventative maintenance and repair efforts
  • Issue permits for all work being performed within the BMHB which include: Safe Work Permit, HotWork Permit, Line Breaking Permit, & Confined Space Entry Permit
  • Troubleshoot equipment during abnormal operating situations and assist with mechanical and I/E repair efforts
  • Maintain high level of housekeeping and ownership of the BMHB
  • Inspect safety equipment and maintain all safety equipment and gear in good working order
  • Enter Work Requests as needed for faulty equipment and report issues to supervision
  • Report any spills or emergency situations to supervision and site Emergency Coordinators immediately and assist with remediation efforts and situational response
  • Ensure that all mixes are thoroughly blended and inspect all mixes for discrepant or "reject" material and remove them from the mixes and put them in the appropriate box location
  • Keep track of Reject "Macro" Box and notify supervision when it is full and needs to be swapped
  • Oversee the routine cleaning of building equipment
  • Assist Incineration unit with the ash and deslagging process on a weekly basis which includes loading and or shooting of SCC slag and discharging Powershots into the kiln disengaging chamber
  • Operate multiple forms of rolling stock equipment such as: Forklifts, roll-off trucks, backhoe, front end loader, man lifts, 80BBL tanker, 130BBL tanker, etc..
  • Monitor and control site emissions Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer(RTO) in coordination with Incinerator needs and Supervisor guidance. This includes startup, shutdown, & LOTO of RTO.
  • Train new Mix Operators and assist with sign off and onboarding process
  • Enforce daily requirements and needs of the BMHB from mixes to PPE


Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:
  • High School Diploma and/or G.E.D.
  • No unsatisfactory work performance issues and must be qualified in current position (6) months or more
  • Currently holding or previously held a position which by definition of task and/or area required person to be trained to level of hazardous waste operator
  • Minimum one year process operations experience preferred
  • Minimum six months heavy equipment operations preferred

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Must possess and be able to demonstrate basic operational skills such as:
    • Valve operation and Identification
    • Equipment recognition and basic operational knowledge of different types of pumps, agitators, and compressors
    • Proficient in the use of hand tools
  • Must possess basic operational knowledge of Google based applications
    • Google Sheets, Docs, & GMail
  • Must be able to learn and operate site computer programs without assistance
  • Must be able to perform the job requirements and pass a verbal and/or written skill/proficiency test for the position within a reasonable orientation/training period set by Supervision

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
  • Must be able to obtain respirator certifications and maintain fit test compliance
  • Must be able to pass a DEA background screening for Powershot usage
  • Must maintain current status on all annual site and corporate training requirements
  • Must be able to get signed off on the usage of site rolling stock such as: Forklifts, Roll-off Trucks, Backhoe, Front-end Loader, Manlift, 80BBL tanker, 130BBL tanker, etc..
