This position is full-time, Monday-Friday 11am-7pm, working in our Caron Atlanta Outpatient office. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • The Counselor is to provide ongoing clinical assessment for any symptomatology meeting diagnostic criteria according to the latest version of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual (DSM) and provide clear recommendations for the presenting client & their family. Should these recommendations involve additional and/or external treatment and/or supportive services, the counselor is to facilitate the admission process on behalf of the client & family.  
  • During the course of treatment and/or recovery support, the Counselor is expected to ongoingly identify clinical needs and present a clinical summary as outlined by the 6 dimensions reflected in the ASAM Level of Care Index to the presenting patient, family and as a case consult to the clinical team. The counselor is expected to be an active participant on the clinical team through case consultations, treatment planning, referral management, group supervision and patient/family education.  
  • The Counselor is expected to carry out the protocols of the therapeutic and recovery support process at Caron Treatment Centers as well as adhere to the standards of practice upheld at Caron. The Counselor is expected to carry out the mission and philosophy of Caron Treatment Centers in his/her daily work routine and to act as a catalyst for positive change in the therapeutic process of the patient’s treatment episode. 
  • Case management – overall coordination of a patient’s care while in Level 1 outpatient services and/or Recovery Support services, including the integration of family sessions, communication with referral sources, assessment of patient progress pre-and post-evaluation, discharge planning and proactive communication to the clinical team regarding special treatment needs and procedures.  
  • Responsible for assessment activities (level of care evaluation, orientation, psychosocial interview, integrated summary) – a data-driven clinical function to determine eligibility for and placement in a level of treatment and/or recovery support services based on admission criteria. The writing and summation of findings from therapy and other disciplines with diagnostic impressions. Collaboration & consultation with all relevant professionals that may assist in the assessment and placement process. 
  • Group therapy, Individual counseling and Recovery Support – conducting the clinical process through which patients address treatment goals, as stated on their treatment plans via an interactive process with other patients as well as collecting information on the chemically impacted patient, assessing family dynamics, recommending clinically appropriate recovery related resources and support programs. 
  • Ongoing Care assessment and planning – assess unresolved and deferred problems and write goals and objectives in the aftercare plan, and coordinate this with the treatment team and administrative teams, when necessary. 
  • Responsible for the collection of random urine drug screen and breathalyzer samples from patients and relaying the results to the patient. 
  • The Counselor is expected to work within the ethical constraints of the certified Addiction Counselor, and other professional or organizational ethical standards as they apply to the position. 
  • Responsible for documenting treatment plans, progress notes, treatment plan updates, case consultations, telephone calls and discharge summaries in the patient records in a timely fashion.  This includes the coordination of assessments from the multidisciplinary treatment team in according to Caron policy and procedures. 
  • Responsible for completing necessary utilization review information and forwarding it to the Financial Continuing Care Specialists. 
  • Assume responsibilities such as coordination of internship training programs, perform speaking engagements for targeted groups in the facility and general community, represent the facility on clinical/administrative committees, assist in training new staff and consult or provide other treatment services at Caron facilities as assigned.

  • Must be able to deliver presentations that may be both multiple times and for lengthy time periods

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Master’s Degree in Human Services with 6 months’ clinical experience. Licensure required. 
  • Experience in the area of facilitating group therapy required. 
  • Knowledgeable in adolescent or adult developmental issues for their respective fields. 
  • If in recovery, two years of uninterrupted sobriety preferred.
