The Oregon State Hospital’s Peer Recovery Services Department in Salem, Oregon is seeking a Peer In-Reach Outreach Coordinator.  This department provides a foundation in person-directed care for patients at Oregon State Hospital and promotes both patient empowerment and shared decision making throughout a patients’ placement and community integration, post release. The Department also collaborates with patients and stakeholders to construct and maintain systems of care emphasizing patient choice, strengths, assets, and resiliencies.  This supports a patients’ highest level of autonomy. Subsequently the Department assures patients become an “agent of recovery” with the authority to exercise choice and make decisions based on their recovery goals.

What will you do?

The primary functions of the Peer In-Reach Outreach Coordinator position are to support individuals, families, and community members to gain information and skills to effectively engage with systems of support as well as providing OSH with information and skills to effectively engage with patients, their family members, and the community.  Travel to and from the Oregon State Hospital Junction City campus, 1-2 days a week will be required.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, FACILITATION, AND SERVICE DELIVERY

Work with OSH leadership, community partners, and advisory organizations to further develop partnerships and linkages that bring services and training to Oregon State Hospital.

•Serve on advisory boards, committees, and workgroups for partner organizations. Serve on committees, workgroups, and policy review panels within OSH.

•Develop, plan, and coordinate large public outing events that provide patients with opportunities to be linked to and participate in peer-run and disability empowerment conferences in the community.

•Present to community groups including high school students, college students, law enforcement, medical students, interns, and educators about the lived experience of mental health challenges.

•Coordinate hiring and provide supervision and training of New Employee Orientation presenters (patient workers). Work with Vocational Services for hiring, payroll, and evaluations.

•Community and Cultural Liaising: Develop and support culturally and linguistically appropriate information and training to OSH patients and staff to effectively bridge differences.

•Coordinate with OSH departments, volunteers, and contractors to schedule group service delivery options.

DIRECT SERVICES & ADVOCACY

•Facilitate individual and group work to educate patients, staff and other interested parties on self-advocacy, community resources/natural supports, peer support, and other related recovery and self-efficacy skills.

•Champion a person-directed, recovery-oriented and trauma informed culture at OSH and provide a safe environment for peer values and ethics to be practiced.

•Assist patients in developing skills to participate in large social settings.

•Deliver 1:1 peer support to individually requested or intradepartmental referred patients. Share lived experiences as appropriate to build rapport, validate experiences, and promote social learning through relational exchange.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a degree related to the agency program that demonstrates the capacity for the knowledge and skills; and two years’ experience coordinating or administering a program.


OR


Any combination of experience or education equivalent to five years of experience that typically supports the knowledge and skill requirements listed for the classification.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • The incumbent must have completed a recognized Peer Support training and be certified as a Traditional Health Care Worker.
  • The incumbent in this position will identify as having “lived experience” of being a consumer of mental health services, so that mutual sharing may occur according to peer support principals.
  • Maintain current working knowledge and subsequent compliance to Peer Recovery Services Department, OSH, FPS, DHS, DAS, Policies and Procedures, OMHAS Directives, Oregon Administrative Rules, Federal and State Statutes.
  • Knowledge of Peer Support ethics, principles, and values.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with persons with mental health and/or substance use issues.
  • Valid Driver’s license and acceptable driving record preferred.
