Required Education
Ph.D. in biomedical/optical engineering or closely related field.
Required Related Experience
The applicant must be capable of developing experimental and modeling skills and have experience with lasers, fiber optics, CCD cameras, spectroscopy, microscopy, and LabVIEW programming. Previous experience in biomedical optical spectroscopy, imaging, microscopy, cell culture, and preclinical models is particularly helpful. Excellent organization and communication skills are a must.

Physical Requirements
May require long periods of sitting, standing, walking bending, pushing, pulling, use of
manual dexterity, extending of arms, climbing stairs, reaching, twisting of upper body, talking, listening, reading and viewing. Occasionally it requires stretching and lifting and moving up to 30 lbs.
Shift
8am-5pm with occasional evenings and weekends dependent upon the requirements of the experiments running.
Job Summary
The Spectroscopic Imaging Laboratory in the F. Joseph Halcomb III, M.D. Department of
Biomedical Engineering and Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky has an opening for a postdoctoral scholar research position. The prospective candidate will be expected to contribute to our optical imaging program at BME and Markey Cancer Center in which he/she will have opportunities to pursue preclinical and translational cancer research with a focus of cancer metabolism, and mentor graduate students. This position will also provide a unique opportunity to gain experience in a multidisciplinary research environment. The initial appointment will be for a 12-month period, with the possibility of extension based on performance and the availability of funding.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
* Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
*Detail oriented, ability to work in a team environment, analytical skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
*Proficient in the use of common scientific equipment.
Knowledge of cancer cell culture, tumor organoid culture.
Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques.

Preferred Education/Experience
Minimum one year working in a research laboratory.
