Day to day as an R&D, Data Scientist

Join us at Castle Biosciences as a full-time R&D Data Scientist in Friendswood, TX, as we are looking for exceptional talent for the position of Data Scientist. The Data Scientist will be responsible for developing and implementing analytic plans for new product development and/or ongoing evidence development and test product improvement and extension opportunities. The Data Scientist will work closely with internal R&D colleagues and is responsible for the accurate and efficient communication of results and analysis processes within R&D, across company departments, and to external clinician collaborators. The selected candidate will report to the Director of Data Science and Evidence Development, R&D.

The knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • A PhD in the life sciences or data science/statistics is required with a minimum additional 3-4 years of post-doctoral or industry equivalent experience (achieved position of Instructor or Assoc Professor is preferred)
  • Must have project lead experience and directed the analysis of data and/or predictive models that can be cited and confirmed by referenced individuals
  • A strong background in advanced inferential statistics is required
  • 1 year of experience with high-throughput gene expression or genomics data AND/OR spatial-omics data is preferred
  • 1 year of experience with command line operation.
  • 1 year of experience with machine learning and/or statistical modeling.
  • Experience with statistical analysis of clinical data (summary statistics, survival analysis, regression, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience with common office software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong experience with data and text processing, including data reshaping.
  • Strong experience with data programming and scripting languages (R, Python, Java, SQL required).
  • Experience with version control and team development (git required).
  • Strong publication record.
  • Actively displays behaviors that support the mission, vision, and values of Castle Biosciences.

SCHEDULE

  • Monday through Friday, typical office hours, working from our company headquarters in Friendswood, TX, with the option to work remotely 2 days per week following 3 months of successful onboarding. Occasional time spent outside of normal business hours as required.
