The Dierbergs Retail Management Internship Program offers students the opportunity to acquire hands-on experience in the retail sector, focusing on leadership skills to foster personal and professional growth. This paid, 10-12-week program is designed to provide you with a comprehensive learning experience by gaining practical business and retail experience working in a grocery, retail environment. As an Intern, you will learn all aspects of the grocery business, from customer service to operations, fostering a culture where you feel welcome, included, and celebrated. In this internship, your responsibilities will include:
- Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive shopping experience for our customers.
- Build connections with Associates, fostering a collaborate team environment.
- Partner closely with the Core Management team to acquire skills, knowledge, and expertise required to efficiently oversee the grocery and front-end department.
- Observe Core Management team leaders to understand variables that impact store profitability including gross margin, inventory control, and operating expenses.
- Assist in responding to and resolving customer issues, including but not limited to, product-related problems and service-related issues.
- Build a business plan, chosen by the business, and deliver a presentation of findings to the leadership team upon concluding the internship.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications for Success:
- Currently enrolled an accredited college or university and entering Junior or Senior year in Fall 2024
- Candidates with 2+ years of retail experience who are currently attending a two-year community college will also be considered
- 1+ year of experience in retail, grocery, food service, or hospitality environment preferred
- Must have a passion for retail and are considering future careers in this dynamic field
- Uphold Dierbergs standards for professionalism and appearance
- Proven track record of dependability and reliability in previous roles or extracurricular activities
- Demonstrated leadership abilities through work, school, or extracurricular activities
- Flexibility to accommodate a varied schedule, including nights and weekends, to support operational needs
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally and up to 20 lbs. frequently
- Able to push and pull up to 90 lbs. of force occasionally
- Occasional: Sitting and climbing; frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, and handling
- Frequent: Head turn, trunk bend, side reach, grasp, power grip, pinch, finger manipulation, & feel
- Constant: Stand, handling, & forward reach
