What will you do?
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Oregon State Hospital(OSH), Safety program in Salem, Oregon has a fantastic career opportunity for a Safety Specialist 1 to ensure the health and safety of Oregon State Hospital staff, patients, and visitors by conducting fire and life safety inspections, evaluating safety program effectiveness and compliance with state, federal and applicable regulatory standards. Formulate policies and design operational system to enhance the hospital health and safety program and provide training and education to hospital staff to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Communicate and provide recommendations to hospital leadership to improve safety policies and programs through committee involvement.

- Paid Leave Days:

Minimum Qualifications:
Three years experience that included duties working with Workers' Compensation loss prevention, the return to work of injured employees, and/or occupational health and wellness programs.
OR
A Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
Desired Attributes:
• Experience effectively communicating with leadership, management, employees, and patients.
• Experience evaluating hazards to determine resolutions to worksite safety, health hazards or concerns.
• Experience in MS Office software: specifically, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience in safety risk management and fire life safety in a psychiatric hospital setting.
• Ability to comprehend and recite Joint Commission standards as it relates to Life safety.
• Strong organizational skills.
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed within an office environment and includes working with confidential and sensitive information. Must have the ability to operate a computer with a high level of proficiency.
- May have contact with individuals experiencing extreme emotional dysregulation and trauma.
- Occasional exposure to extreme conditions while evaluating hazards, exposure to include inclement weather and industrial work areas on OSH campuses.
- Travel between campuses: Salem and Junction City, is required. Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing, or an alternative transportation method.
- Non-traditional workhours may be expected, including overtime.
