Position Information

Hiring Department: College of Nursing, Deans Office

Posting End Date: Open until filled. This posting may close once a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility occasionally required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Non-exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

The Simulation Specialist will operate and maintain all simulation base equipment and set-ups at the Center. They will also provide support and development of educational and/or research programming.

Essential Functions

Develop technical proficiency with all aspects of the operations, maintenance, support, trouble-shooting, and minor repair of the equipment within one year of hiring, including but not limited to: Laerdal, Inc. products (computer-driven human simulator system), life-support systems, physiologic monitors, personal computers and peripherals, and audiovisual and wireless communication systems.

Assist Director and faculty to develop curriculum and educational materials for different levels and types of training related to the Center.

Responsible for the maintenance of all equipment and timely ordering and availability of supplies.

Assist with scheduling and coordination of teaching and research with the Center.

Will assist with faculty and education-related research efforts as designated by the Director.

Operate or assist with the operation of the simulators and task trainers for all training sessions as needed or requested by the Director.

Assist faculty orientation to principles of simulation training technology and configurations.

Ability to assess equipment failures and remedy such failures in a timely fashion. Ability to work under pressure and reliably meet deadlines is essential. Must be able to communicate with multiple levels of healthcare professionals. Ability to work independently and reliably within parameters designated by the Director.

Carry out other special projects designated by the Director.

Interface with the equipment manufacturers regarding trouble-shooting equipment and systems problems and implementing hardware and software updates.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Associates degree with an emphasis in healthcare or healthcare technology field.

and

Experience:

Two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with operation of personel computers, familiarity with medical terminology and audio-visual equipment, excellent teamwork and communication.
