Survey Party Chief

We are looking for an experienced Survey Party Chief to join our Survey team in Northern or Central Indiana. In this role, you will performing critical survey fieldwork for major infrastructure projects, such as highways, bridges, and land development. You will play a key role in gathering precise data that drives the success of these projects, ensuring accuracy from the field to final delivery. Key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Leading a field survey crew for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects.
- Participating in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers and contractors.
- Assigning and monitoring crew tasks, providing direction as needed and ensuring efficient and accurate data collection.
- Training crew members in survey methods, equipment use, and safety procedures.
- Gathering field data using a variety of survey methods.
- Operating and adjusting surveying equipment to measure distances, elevations, and angles.
- Preparing field notes, sketches, and survey reports.
- Conducting complex calculations using surveying software.
- Analyzing raw data for accuracy and providing information for GIS.
- Researching records, maps, and property boundaries.
- Maintaining accurate field records and ensuring proper maintenance of equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.
- Performing related office survey tasks and other duties as needed.
Qualifications for this role:
- Associate’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field is helpful, but not required; Relevant survey experience will be considered in lieu of education.
- Field surveying experience with strong knowledge of survey instruments, methodologies, and data collection techniques.
- Experience leading survey crews and managing multiple projects is helpful.
- Proficiency in surveying software and conducting complex calculations.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
