The acute care area is a 16 bed area where common emergency complaints like abdominal pain, stable chest pain, and mild to moderate shortness of air receive care. Critical care has 8 beds and patients in this area range from trauma patients who have been resuscitated in the trauma area and need continuing care to patients in need of intensive care unit treatment such as septic patients or those receiving vasoactive infusions. The UK Level I Trauma Center has 8 beds capable of caring for the most complex injured patients The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant); and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. Furthermore, this environment supports collaborative efforts among the nursing staff and the team of physicians to increase communication and enhance expected patient outcomes. This includes utilization of the nursing process in conjunction with a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care, ensuring patient satisfaction.
